‘’Homelessness is when you don’t have a permanent, safe or secure place to live. This also includes people on the street ‘sleeping rough’ or in makeshift dwellings.’’ There are many different representation of homelessness in the media some a negative and some are positive representations. Homelessness in Australia is a very serious social justice issue currently in Australia there is 105,237 people that are homeless. ‘’There is not just one reason for homelessness. Homelessness is mainly a result of issues which can include shortage of affordable and available rental housing, domestic and family violence, financial crisis, poverty, unemployment, lack of affordable housing, poor physical and mental health, drug and alcohol abuse, gambling, family and relationship breakdown, domestic violence, physical and/ or sexual abuse, economic and social exclusion, young people exiting state care, people exciting prison and severe overcrowding/ housing crisis.’’
There are many stereotypes and portrayals of homelessness, when you think of homelessness you generally think of people who are dirty, alcoholics/ drug dealers, selfish, lonely, someone who sleeps on the streets and someone who has no money. Paul Moulds is the Captain of the Oasis Youth Support Network at the Salvation Army his job is to help the less fortunate. Although there is no simple solution of the problem of homelessness, solutions such as Alcohol drug campaign to help prevent most of the homeless from taking any type of drug, Community housing federation of Australia (CHFA) to provide housing facilities to the homeless these solution could help the homeless get back on track and start a new life also try and help them get jobs so they can earn money so they can provide for themselves.
